Mengesha directed the Canadian premiere of Kim's Convenience at Soulpepper Theatre. After playing a sold out run the theatre brought the show back twice to try and fulfill the demand. The play broke box office history and brought new audiences to the theatre. It is currently still on tour across the country and is in development to be turned into a feature film and national TV show.
I cried, too. This was not just the magic of the fine performances, particularly Mr. Lee’s, under the direction of Weyni Mengesha. It was also my belated recognition that the story was, in part, my own.
Made me laugh and he made me cry; you can’t ask for more than that.

Under Weyni Mengesha’s astute direction, the ensemble cast tackles their characters with a high level of believability.
